End of a year, start of a blog...

Well, we are coming to the end of 2016 and as usual the media are full of all the usual round-ups  of the best / worst events.

If you're a celebrity then you've probably done well just to survive this year - I can't remember a year with so many famous deaths.

But amongst the 'best of's I have spotted in the past day or two is a superb collection of the year's best portrait photographs to appear in the Guardian on, needless to say, the Guardian website.

The Guardian have a tradition of fine photojournalism and this year's crop of portraits shows they continue to employ some of the best photographers in the business. This one, by Christopher Thormond, shows the Syrian-born activist Muzoon Almellehan and is one of my favourites.
